Growing South Bend Airport a Priority to new Executive Director
SOUTH BEND, Ind — A new year; a nearly completed new terminal expansion; a new face to lead the future of the South Bend Airport (SBN). Following last week’s retirement announcement by long serving SBN Executive Director, John Schalliol; the St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board met with the County Commissioners today, to introduce the newly named leader of the South Bend Airport, Michael Daigle, AAE. Daigle has been named Executive Director of the St. Joseph County Airport Authority and will take the helm at SBN, following Schalliol’s retirement, on February 29th, 2012.
"The Airport Authority has a tremendously positive reputation within the aviation community and I am thrilled to be joining such an organization,” remarked Daigle. “There have been many successes and laudable accomplishments under John's seasoned leadership and I hope to continue to lead that level of excellence in the years ahead."
Daigle brings nearly 35 years of aviation experience with him to SBN, along with a fresh perspective, aimed at taking up where John left off and continuing to work to grow the Airport and enhance the air service picture within Michiana.
“The Board of Directors has great confidence in Mike’s ability to lead the airport and to continue the legacy that John has begun,” remarked David Sage, Airport Authority Board President. The Airport Board of Directors partnered with the renowned aviation executive search firm, ADK Executive Search, to conduct a thorough, nation-wide search to find the most qualified person to lead the airport into the future.
Mike has served as the Deputy Executive Director at Capital Region International Airport, in Lansing Michigan since 2007 and prior to that he was the Airport Director in Kalispell Montana and La Crosse Wisconsin. Daigle previously served in the Aviation Branch of the US Army, retiring after 20 years of service. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation.
